Most of Nara’s private-bath rooms are 15–20 m². This one is 63 m² — a genuine suite with its own cypress open-air bath, three minutes’ walk from JR Nara station, from ¥27,540 (≈US$178) for two. That’s the widest floor per yen we found in the Nara-Park orbit, and unlike the townhouse ryokan up the hill, it puts you on top of the station — the practical base if you’re threading Nara into a Kyoto–Osaka run rather than making it a destination. It’s the annex of the established Nara Ryokan (西鹿庭 / Sairokutei), so the 4.7 across five reviews sits on a real operator, not a first-year gamble.

What to expect

The tub is a heated cypress open-air bath, not onsen — Agoda and Booking machine-translations say “hot spring,” but central Nara has no natural source, so read that as marketing, not mineral water. What’s real is the room: a 63 m² suite is family- or small-group territory, with a garden-facing veranda and the wood-and-cypress ryokan finish. Five reviews is a thin base and the property is young, so go in for the space and the location rather than a long track record. Non-smoking, free Wi-Fi, self-contained.

Eat nearby — this is the point

This is the one Nara pick where going out for dinner actually works. You’re on JR Nara station, whose Sanjo-dori approach and the streets around both Nara stations stay open later than the dead-quiet park side. Walk Sanjo-dori toward Kofuku-ji for kakinoha-zushi (persimmon-leaf sushi, a Nara specialty that travels — buy some for the train too), ramen and izakaya with picture menus near the station, and Naramachi’s older places a few blocks on. Still, “later” in Nara means ~21:00, not midnight — plan dinner before 20:00 and you’ll never be caught out. Convenience stores are a 5-minute walk for a late-night backup.
